Halloween is right around the corner and what better way to celebrate than some good ol’ fashioned horror movie marathon.

After San Miguel star June Mar Fajardo gave his selections for some horror movies that… help him sleep, here are more recommendations courtesy of PBA stars.

In particular, Ginebra teammates Justin Brownlee and Joe Devance, set to compete with the Gin Kings in the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals, took a quick breather and shared some things other than basketball—their personal horror picks.

Justin Brownlee’s go-to chills

It’s all about the classics for Brownlee.

“Man, there’s a whole lot. You got Candyman,” he said.

It was clear that horror legends stuck with him from his younger days, as JB went on to reflect with some absolute blasts from the past.

“When I was younger, of course, Friday the 13th, the Jason and Freddy movies.”

These choices make sense, especially since Brownlee would like to go as Jason or Freddy if he were to go on a Halloween party.

“What would I want to be for Halloween? Maybe Jason [Voorhees], Jason or Freddy [Kreuger],” he quipped.

Aside from the classics, Brownlee also revealed that thrillers such as the Final Destination franchise also make his list of personal favorites.

“Final Destination is more of a thriller, but I get scared too,” he confessed.

For a comedic twist, Brownlee threw in Don’t Be A Menace to his list.

“That’s comedy-scary,” he said with a chuckle.

Joe Devance’s favorite scares

Big horror fan Joe Devance, on the other hand, shared quite a lot from his own horror bucket.

“Some of my favorite movies for Halloween are Freddy Kreuger 1, 2, 3, 4,5,” Devance shared.

His horror marathon doesn’t stop there.

“Then we got all the Jasons. You know all the Jasons?” Devance asked, referencing the infamous Friday the 13th franchise.

Whether it’s the haunting theme of Halloween or the twisted humor of Chucky 1 and 2—which is also part of his list—Devance makes sure no classic goes unnoticed.

The Gin King even gave Jaws a shoutout, wondering if it fits into the horror lineup.

“Is Jaws horror? Is that scary for Halloween? Jaws is always good, 1 and 2.”

And of course, newer horror staples like Poltergeist and The Exorcist made his extensive list, alongside franchises including Scream and Saw.

“That’s a lot, I think that’s like 40 movies,” Devance said, showing his love for the genre.

From court to the couch, and onto the Finals

Whether it’s the scream-inducing terror of Freddy Kreuger or the suspenseful Final Destination, the Gin Kings duo know how to balance their winning mindset with a few good scares.

As Barangay Ginebra prepares for another potential championship run, their favorite horror movies in Candyman and Scream also offer a nice blend of thrills leading up to the biggest games of the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup.
