While the NBA remains the goal, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson has learned to embrace the present and the moments that come with it, including a second PBA Governors' Cup title with TNT.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson will simply not be denied of his second championship with TNT in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup.
In the Game 6 clincher, Hollis-Jefferson produced another all-around outing for the Tropang Giga, finishing with 31 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists, and two steals for a decisive 95-85 win.
The TNT super import has earned praises for stellar play both on offense and defense, with Ginebra coach Tim Cone saying that the 29-year-old forward should be in the NBA once more.
In fact, RHJ has said in the past that he still wants another shot to be in the Association.
But after winning his second PBA title with TNT, Hollis-Jefferson had a different tone when asked about his NBA ambitions.
“For sure, it’s still the highest league in the world. It’ll always be in my mind but I feel like at a point in your life, God puts you where you need to be and I think where we go wrong is we fight that,” Hollis-Jefferson told reporters after the title victory.
“We fight that so we miss the little things, we miss the moments where we can enjoy and cherish the people right in front of you,” he added.
Should the door for an NBA return opens once more, Hollis-Jefferson would be the first to take it and enter. But for now, the two-time PBA champion and reigning Best Import is enjoying another victorious moment with his PBA ka-tropa.
“Right now, I’m in the air of appreciating the people that are in front of me. If the NBA calls me, my agent calls me and says hey the NBA wants to give you another chance, I’m ready. I’m just gonna continue and enjoy the people around me,” Hollis-Jefferson explained.
It’s still not 100 percent sure whether or not Hollis-Jefferson will be back with TNT for the Commissioner's Cup.
Right now, RHJ will be enjoying this latest championship with his Tropang Giga teammates.
“I’m not sure. It’s up to the bosses. Right now, my teammates are waiting for me, we’re champions, so we’re gonna enjoy the night,” said Hollis-Jefferson.
