Give it a few years and Tenorio may just take Alapag's throne in the PBA record books.
The Mighty Mouse has 1,250 triples to lead everybody in the PBA all-time career three-pointers, but given Tenorio’s durability, he will likely get his chance to overtake the 2011 PBA MVP.
Tenorio sits third on the list with 1,179 threes and counting, while another shooting legend in Allan Caidic is No. 2 with 1,242 treys.
In his journey to move up this list, the Gineral found a cheerleader in no less than Alapag himself.
In a tweet, the TNT legend expressed his admiration of Tenorio’s accomplishments by simply telling him to “keep it going”.
Clearly, there’s a bond between these point gods. They played together as two of the main floor generals of Gilas 2.0, which qualified for the 2014 FIBA Worlds after a dramatic win over Korea in the FIBA Asia Championship the previous year. This little Twitter exchange is a good reminder of that.
Alapag is one of Philippine basketball’s nicest and classiest all-time greats. Tenorio, meanwhile, has not missed a game since joining the league in 2006. If (and when?) LA becomes the PBA’s new all-time three-point king, seeing these two legends linking up for a celebratory toast should not surprise us at all.
