"Coach Aby" has a nice ring to it.
Aby Maraño shared a preview of what she might be doing after her playing years—not to say that Tyang's retirement is nearing. But as early as now, the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers captain is doing some coaching.
In a series of Instagram Stories, Maraño shared that she came back to her high school alma mater, Don Antonio de Zuzuarregui Sr. Memorial Academy (DAZSMA) in Antipolo, Rizal, to teach the school's next generation of players. The former national team captain and her players were all smiles in one post-training photo.
"I appreciate their hard work and efforts today. My heart is full," Maraño said in the caption.
In separate videos, Maraño showed how they are having fun during training.
"Award! Nanunugod. Hindi ko tinuro 'yan ah," Maraño joked as her players entered the other side of the court to celebrate after scoring a point.
During her trip to DAZSMA, Maraño also linked up with an old friend.
"Reunited with my high school beshie na kasamang manghingi ng limang piso sa mga estudyante 'pag recess kasi wala kaming pambili ng pagkain. Char!"
Maraño may be one of the most successful athletes to come out of Antipolo, and it's heartwarming to see her give back to her roots. Juggling traning with F2 Logistics and her duties as coach for her alma mater, the fan-favorite middle blocker has proven time and time again that her love and passion for volleyball is up there with the best.
