She is looking at 6–12 months of rehabilitation and recovery.
The PLDT High Speed Hitters will be without veteran Jovy Prado for the rest of the PVL Invitational Conference—and likely beyond.
The hard-hitting outside spiker tore her left ACL after a bad fall in PLDT’s straight-sets loss to the Creamline Cool Smashers last Thursday at the PhilSports Arena. Prado’s left knee buckled upon landing after an attempted spike, and she had to be stretchered off the playing court. She later made her way back to the PLDT bench to watch the rest of the game, with her left knee taped with ice.
Prado went on to miss PLDT’s next game—a crucial 25-18, 25-17, 26-14 win against the Gerflor Defenders on Saturday—which the High Speed Hitters dedicated to their injured teammate.
PLDT confirmed on Facebook the extent of Prado’s injury.
“After an MRI scan and a checkup with a doctor, it was confirmed to Jovy Prado and the PLDT High Speed Hitters team and management that she suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear following a bad landing during our game versus the Cool Smashers on Tuesday,” the team wrote in its official announcement.
Prado, however, was still in attendance during PLDT’s do-or-die match versus the Chery Tiggo Crossovers on Tuesday. Injured and all, she was helping the team the best she could, whispering instructions to her teammates and egging them on.
The announcement also thanked Prado’s well-wishers and implored PLDT fans to “continue to pray for her as she goes through the path to recovery on her way back to the PVL court.”
That way back to the PVL court figures to be long and hard for Prado, who will be facing 6–12 months of rehabilitation and recovery.
