But she got the better of her idol on Saturday.
It was twin victories for Eya Laure on Saturday night.
Laure couldn’t contain her joy as she went up against her idol in the Chery Tiggo Crossovers’ 25-15, 27-25, 18-25, 25-23 win over the Petro Gazz Angels in the PVL Second All-Filipino Conference.
Perhaps she was talking about Petro Gazz veteran Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, the UST volleyball legend.
While she put on a straight face all-game long, she was giddy as a child during the post-game interview at the Philsports Arena.
“Chine-cherish ko ‘tong araw na ‘to kasi idol ko, nakalaban ko sa pro,” said Laure, whose talent and collegiate career were compared to her fellow Thomasian volleybelle's.
Against her idol, Laure was all over the court. Apart from scoring, she was also spectacular on defense and at the service line.
“Kumpiyansa lang,” said the young spiker, who finished with 21 points, including two blocks and four aces.
More importantly, the win allowed the Crossovers to rise to a 4-1 win loss record. The PLDT High Speed Hitters and Petro Gazz shared the same slate.
But while Laure and the rest of the Crossovers were elated to deal the Angels their first loss of the conference, they have little time to celebrate.
“Magte-training ulit bukas,” said Laure.
Laure is expected to take the same role again when the team takes on the Nxled Chameleons on Thursday.
