It appears there's no other recourse but to pay up.
Gerflor Defenders assured they are trying to resolve the salary issue after the news broke out that the team has allegedly failed to pay its players.
In a statement released on Thursday, the team said it is “working on an immediate solution to resolve it.”
“We acknowledge the problem,” the statement read. “Rest assured that all matters will be resolved privately for the interest of everyone concerned.”
Earlier that day, the PVL also said it was looking into the issue which blew up when an anonymous user on Reddit, who claimed to be part of the team, revealed players were allegedly not being paid.
The issue didn’t sit well with PVL fans, including volleyball analyst Mela Tunay, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her disgust.
“For a team na PUNO NG LOGOS NG SPONSORS ang jersey, nasaan ang budget for the players?” she said.
“I hope the PVL and GAB look into them, (because) right before I retired, (me) and my former teammates were also victimized by THAT person. At madami na talaga 'yan nabiktima!"
Gerflor coach Sammy Acarlar and the rest of the Defenders are hoping the issue will be resolved sooner rather than later.
As hard as it is to focus right now, though, the Defenders are bent on getting win number one after dropping the first six games.
