In what turned out to be a classic semifinal series, the Flying Titans emerged victorious.
The Choco Mucho Flying Titans’ Deanna Wong was an emotional wreck when she gave coach Dante Alinsunurin a big hug on the heels of a 25-20, 23-25, 26-24, 25-23 win over the Cignal HD Spikers in Game 3 of the PVL Second All-Filipino Conference semifinals on Tuesday.
Moments later, the Choco Mucho setter was almost at a loss for words during an interview with One Sports’ Lexi Rodriguez. In fact, it took her a while to find the right words to describe her feelings.
It shouldn't come as a surprise, though. After all, the Flying Titans accomplished something they haven't done in franchise history.
“We’re just really grateful na nakapasok kami sa semis. Hindi lang naman ako, pero buong team. Hindi lang top four goal namin, hopefully we'll reach our goal talaga,” Wong said as she wiped tears from her face.
Those scenes only proved the gravity of the win that sent the Flying Titans to their first ever finals appearance against no less than the Creamline Cool Smashers, who breezed through the Chery Tiggo Crossovers in the other semifinals pairing.
Though they lost starters Jia de Guzman and Ced Domingo, the Cool Smashers have proven their system can continue doing wonders for them all-conference long as they swept their way to the last dance.
But the Flying Titans are not backing down.
“Very determined. Our team has gone through a lot this season, and finally we’ve made the finals. We’re so excited to go up against Creamline,” said Kat Tolentino of their sister team led by Tots Carlos, Alyssa Valdez, and Jema Galanza.
The two teams face each other in a gigantic finale beginning on Thursday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Game time is set at 6 p.m. after the battle-for-bronze match between Cignal and the Crossovers.
