'Great things take time': Pauline Gaston looks forward as Chery Tiggo goes back to proverbial drawing board

PVL

The Chery Tiggo Crossovers had a so-so PVL season by their high standards—finishing fifth in the First All-Filipino Conference, eighth in the Invitational Conference, and fourth in the Second All-Filipino Conference.

That fourth-place finish, in particular, has to be disappointing for the Crossovers, whose lineup was arguably among the most talented of the 12 PVL teams that went to war in the Second All-Filipino Conference. The team, of course, was bannered by the spectacular Eya Laure, who capped off her rookie season by being named one of two Best Outside Spikers alongside Jema Galanza of the Creamline Cool Smashers.

Another key player for Chery Tiggo was Pauline Gaston, whose blocking prowess continues to be among the league’s best. Only this time, her game is evolving more and more as she adds weapons to her arsenal.

And, yet, she knows there is plenty of work that still needs to be done if the Crossovers are to finally breakthrough and at least net a podium finish—or even win the big one.

“Big thanks to everyone who showed us love and support this year,” Gaston wrote on Instagram. “Tight hugs for the Chery fam. Still got SOOO MUCH work to do. Back to the drawing board.”

In particular, the Crossovers will have to figure out a way to meld all that talent—Laure, Gaston, Mylene Paat, and Princess Robles to name only four—into one mean fighting machine like Creamline.

But, of course, that will take time, and Gaston knows it all too well.

“Great things take time,” she wrote in a separate Instagram post.

Indeed, champions are not built overnight, and Chery Tiggo will have the whole of the offseason to forge a championship-caliber squad.
