The major offseason overhaul is now paying dividends for the Akari Chargers.

Oly Okaro and the surging Chargers picked up where they left off, weathering a late ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles in the third set en route to a 25-18, 25-15, and 25-23 win to remain spotless in the PVL Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports arena on Thursday, August 1.

Okaro, who was coming off back-to-back 30-point games, was just limited to just slowed down with a 14 markers including 13 on attacks but still emerged as Akari's topscorer.

Ivy Lacsina had 13 points while Grethcel Soltones chipped 12 markers for the streaking Chargers, who are now in a franchise-best 4-0 start in the import-laden conference.

Akari imposed their might early, taking care of business in the first two sets before a shaky start in the third stalled their momentum briefly.

They broke the 19-all deadlock with consecutive hits from Lacsina and Okaro, followed by an ace from Ced Domingo.

Despite a late push from Ypril Tapia that brought the Thunderbelles within 23-24, Okaro delivered a powerful backrow attack, sealing the one-hour, 23-minute contest.

The quick win is in contrast of Akari's two reverse-sweep wins over Choco Mucho and Petro Gazz in their last outing.

Meanwhile, Asaka Tamaru led ZUS Coffee with eight points while Gayle Pascual and Shar Ancheta contributed five markers apiece for the Thunderbelles, who fell to 0-4.

The Chargers now brace to a highly-anticipated duel with fellow unbeaten team Cignal as both teams will lock horns in a battle of the unbeaten teams on August 6, Tuesday to determine which team will finish pool play as the no. 1 team before the crossover semifinals.

Meanwhile, ZUS Coffee squares off against the rising Capital1 Solar Spikers in their final pool play.
