PVL: PLDT crushes Choco Mucho’s quarterfinal hopes in Reinforced Conference

The PLDT High Speed Hitters have eliminated the Choco Mucho Flying Titans from the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference following their four-set victory, 21-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-19, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Thursday, August 22.

Already secured of a quarterfinals slot, the High Speed Hitters played spoiler against the Flying Titans, who needed a victory to snatch the final playoff spot in the conference.

Choco Mucho was also without import Zoi Faki, who was dealing with some illness, and coach Dante Alinsunurin, who joined Alas Pilipinas Men for the 2024 SEA V.League Leg 2 in Indonesia.

In the fourth set, PLDT pushed ahead for a five-point lead at 16-11 after import Elena Samoilenko’s power tip.

The High Speed Hitters continued extending its lead behind Samoilenko and Kiesha Bedonia, reaching a match point at 24-15.

The Flying Titans saved four match points after Kat Tolentino and Dindin Santiago-Manabat’s attacks, but Bedonia extinguished all hope for Choco Mucho with a power tip.

Kim Fajardo orchestrated PLDT's attacks to perfection with 17 excellent sets. Samoilenko finished with a game-high 30 points on 27 attacks, one block, and two service aces.

Bedonia contributed 16 markers, while Erika Santos added 13 in the victory.

With the win, the High Speed Hitters maintain their hold on the fourth spot, where they will face the Chery Tiggo Crossovers in the quarterfinals.

Santiago-Manabat led Choco Mucho with 22 points, the lone double-digit scorer for the team in the loss.
