The work continues for the Cignal HD Spikers even after their 2-0 start in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
The Cignal HD Spikers are off to a strong start in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
The 14-strong HD Spikers are tied atop the standings with a 2-0 record after beating the Farm Fresh Foxies and the Chery Tiggo Crossovers.
However, despite dropping just a single set so far in the conference, head coach Shaq Delos Santos admitted that his team still needs to work on several aspects of their game.
Cignal, after all, is coming off its best season so far with a bronze and silver medal finish in the Reinforced and Invitational Conference.
“Siguro ‘yung sa communication namin. Kasi kanina ang dami rin naming miscommunication especially pagdating namin dun sa transition going to attack. Buti na lang naco-convert pa rin namin ng puntos talaga,” Delos Santos bared after Cignal’s four-set win over Chery Tiggo.
“Isa ‘yun and then siguro ‘yung consistency ng pasa namin, ‘yung receive. Siguro ‘yung level talaga namin mas gumalaw pa ng maayos, mas maging consistent, and ‘yung mindset talaga na pag nandiyan ka sa loob ng court, ilaban mo hanggang dulo,” he added.
But Delos Santos was quick to laud the HD Spikers’ bounce-back after faltering in the second set against the Crossovers to secure the victory.
“Nung second set, lamang kami and then nahabol, lumamang kami, nahabol ulit and then sa dulo nag-relax din kami but ang good thing, and I’m so proud dun sa team na after that set, recover talaga,” said Delos Santos.
“Knowing them naman, 'pag gusto nila gumalaw, kaya namin maka-create ng points,” he added.
The veteran tactician is also liking what he’s seeing so far from his team in terms of stepping up in different departments.
In their win versus Chery Tiggo, Cignal had 10 service aces led by Gel Cayuna, who had five.
“Siyempre, maganda ito para sa amin kasi at least nakikita namin na nag-iimprove mga skills namin and hopefully sa next game namin, mas maintain namin or mas mag-improve pa sa lahat ng skills,” said Delos Santos.
“Kanina medyo weak area namin is ‘yung blocking. Good thing lang na merong crucial moment na dun kami nakaka-block but dami nilang napuntos nila samin,” he added.
