The UST Golden Spikers will face the National University Bulldogs in the finals.
Josh Ybañez made special mention of University of Santo Tomas Golden Spikers alumni in their squad's 25-18, 25-22, 25-21 win against the Far Eastern University Tamaraws in the UAAP Season 85 men’s volleyball stepladder playoffs on Sunday.
Ybañez bared UST’s stars from their 4-peat era dropped by the Tigers’ lair and dished out some knowledge on the eve of the match at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
It made a world of difference as UST ultimately returned to the finals after 11 years.
“Kinausap kasi kami ng mga alumni namin kahapon, sobrang laking tulong kasi they shared about their experiences before kung ano mga ginawa nila para mag finals. Sobrang laking tulong nun,” said the sensational rookie, who finished with 15 points.
Gboy De Vega shared a similar sentiment, expressing his gratitude to the likes of former UAAP MVP JP Torres and Jayson Ramos, who were seen cheering UST behind the team’s bench.
“Big thank you rin sa alumni kasi isa sila sa malalaking factor kung bakit kami reunited this game,” he said.
“They shared their knowledge, mga experiences nila before nung naging champion sila. Isinapuso lang namin ‘yun, naniwala kami sa advice at turo nila. Naka-execute naman nang maganda,” he said.
UST and the National University Bulldogs kick off their finals series on May 10, Wednesday.
