Game 3 hero Nikki Villasin gets love from PBA player boyfriend after UST captures women's crown

Game 3 hero Nikki Villasin gets love from PBA player boyfriend after UST captures women
UAAP

If someone wants to make a movie about a female basketball player who's playing in her final year in college and makes the game-winning shot to give her team the championship after almost two decades of futility, Nikki Villasin can write it.

After all, that's exactly what happened to the dynamic guard of the UST Growling Tigresses in their major upset of the NU Lady Bulldogs in their do-or-die Game 3 in the women's finals of UAAP Season 86 on Wednesday.

With the game tied at 69 and UST making a crucial stop, Villasin leaked out and made a layup with only 11 seconds left in the match. It proved to be the title-clinching bucket, as the Growling Tigresses escaped, 71-69, to end their 17-year championship drought and finally quash the Lady Bulldogs' dynastic reign.

After their victory, no one was more proud of Villasin than her boyfriend: PBA player Schonny Winston.

The Converge FiberXers rookie posted back-to-back tweets on X to express his admiration for Villasin, who played in her last game in the UAAP.

Winston had a prolific two-year stint with the De La Salle Green Archers last season but he didn't win a ring.

Villasin, a recruit out of Chicago, also had a laudable two-year stint with the Growling Tigresses.

Like any exemplary couple, Villasin and Winston have been very supportive of each other's careers. They're also not shy to show their love and affection.

Winston is having a shaky start in his maiden conference in the PBA. While he has solid averages of 8.5 points and 3.0 rebounds, Converge remains winless in six games.

Maybe Villasin's milestone can further inspire Winston to answer the call for the FiberXers.
