La Salle sustained its fine form after hacking out another straight-set victory, this time against the University of the Philippines, 25-15, 25-17, 25-18, in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay on Sunday, March 10.

The Lady Spikers thus picked up their fifth victory, all of which they took in a sweep. The only time they surrendered a set was in their sole defeat against the University of Santo Tomas which the Tigresses won in five, 25-18, 25-23, 14-25, 16-25, 15-12.

The Fighting Maroons skidded to 0-5 to remain at the bottom of the standings.

DLSU dominated the opening frame, before being dragged into a close contest by UP midway in the second.

Holding a slim two-point lead, 16-14, the Lady Spikers turned it up a notch, as they rallied behind Amie Provido and Thea Gagate to spark their pullaway.

DLSU carried the momentum in the third as it jumped to an early lead but had to foil UP's charge as the Fighting Maroons inched within 14-15.

But the Lady Spikers ensured their strong finish as they unleashed an 8-1 tear behind Gagate, Jhay Ar Levina and Shevana Laput before shutting the door on UP on Lilay Del Castillo's attack and kill block.
