The De La Salle Green Archers hand Finals rivals UP a first loss in Season 87, taking over as the no. 1 team in UAAP Season 87 to end round 1.
Champion hustle.
The DLSU Green Archers reasserted their mastery over the UP Fighting Maroons as they trounced their rivals in a Finals rematch, 68-56, to cap round 1 of UAAP Season 87 at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, October 6.
Reigning MVP Kevin Quiambao took over for La Salle, even as the Fighting Maroons fought back from a 20-point deficit in the second quarter.
Known for their third quarters, UP staged a 27-7 run to tie the ball game at 42 with 2:31 left in the period.
But Quiambao powered a 7-0 La Salle run to once again create distance, which ultimately put the Green Archers over the top.
Quiambao finished with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, finishing the La Salle masterclass with a dagger triple with 3:45 ticks left to put La Salle up 12, 65-53.
Harold Alarcon paced UP in the losing effort with 19 points as JD Cagulangan missed his second game in a row for the Fighting Maroons.
Both teams are 6-1 but La Salle takes the no. 1 spot due to head-to-head result.
