After their breakthrough win against UE, the UST Golden Spikers aim to add the DLSU Green Spikers to their victim list in their UAAP Season 87 first-round duel.
No Josh Ybañez, no problem so far for the UST Golden Spikers.
The last season’s runners’-up took care of business against the UE Red Warriors to notch their first win in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball tournament.
Now, UST targets to build momentum in a morning showdown with the DLSU Green Spikers on Wednesday, February 26, 9:00 a.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Rookie Jan Macam led a balanced Golden Spikers attack behind a 14-point output, Jayrack de la Noche added 12, while Poy Colinares and Gboy de Vega also reached twin-digit performances.
That commanding win over the Red Warriors made up for their four-set defeat at the hands of the league leaders FEU Tamaraws, where Ybañez sustained an apparent right ankle injury.
“Minor adjustment lang ‘yong wala si [Josh Ybañez] sa starting kasi anyone can take his place. I have three other players to fill his position. I stand by my statement that I have the best lineup this season. Anyone can step up for us. ” UST head coach Odjie Mamon bared in the post-game press conference.
Mamon also revealed that the two-time MVP suffered a Grade 2 ankle sprain, adding that the former Alas Men gunner will be out for “at least two weeks at the minimum,” for the squad.
