There’s no room for ego when it comes to the DLSU Lady Spikers as they try for a redemption season in UAAP Season 87.

Despite Angel Canino still leading the fort for decorated head coach Ramil de Jesus, there have been multiple players stepping up to the plate for the Taft squad. Shevana Laput, for one, has been among the more consistent producers for the Lady Spikers in recent games.

But that doesn’t mean that she’s the only one who can backstop Canino.

That is, more than a handful of players — like Alleiah Malaluan, Lilay del Castillo, and Jyne Soreño — have been known to heat up for La Salle to steady the ship.

Understanding that defenses will focus on Canino, Laput said that it was always a need to be ready to support whenever the team needed it.

“Of course it’s very important, it’s one of my responsibilities and role as a player in this team because at the end of the day, this is a team sport,” Laput said, after firing 22 points in three sets against FEU.

“We’re all there supporting one another, it just so happens right now it’s me, but you’ll never know in the future because we have Lilay del Castillo and Alleiah Malaluan. Right now, yes it’s me, but I know everyone is gonna step up and everyone is gonna be consistent. And we’re on that path to becoming a consistent team,” she added.

Certainly, consistency has been on the horizon for La Salle, who are now winners of four straight games to end the first round. They are firmly in the Top 4 with a 5-2 slate.

Though it has taken some of the spotlight from her, the former Rookie MVP said that it has always been that way — and La Salle was never just about Angel Canino.

“Yung La Salle naman hindi naman puro Angel Canino lang this season, naniniwala ako and I’m very happy na maraming nagstep up.” said Canino.

“Sobrang happy ako kasi nalalabas na rin nila yung laro nila, so meaning nagtteam work kami and maganda yung kinakalabasan ng team work namin.” she continued.
