Sisi Rondina has seen plenty of elite scorers in the UAAP and PVL.
But watching Shaina Nitura’s record-breaking performances in UAAP Season 87 for Adamson made her reflect on what could have been in her own collegiate career.
The former UAAP MVP couldn’t help but marvel at the Adamson Lady Falcons super rookie, who shattered expectations with a historic 38-point explosion against UP—setting the highest single-game scoring output in league history.
Before that, Nitura had already established herself as a force to be reckoned with, dropping 33 points on her debut against Ateneo to break Angge Poyos’ rookie record of 31 points.
“Kung tawag nila sakin robot, si Shaina naman, siya android,” Rondina told One Sports. “Nakaka-proud ‘yung bata. Grabe ‘yung work ethic. Grabe ‘yung dedication niya sa paglalaro ng volleyball.”
Rondina, who once held the UAAP single-game scoring record with 35 points, admitted that seeing Nitura’s relentless drive made her wish she had pushed herself even harder during her college years at UST.
“Alam ko meron siyang personal na hugot kung bakit niya ginagawa ‘yan, and naiisip ko, ‘Hala, sana ginawa ko rin ‘yun nung college days ko.’”

Nitura’s rise and explosive entry to the UAAP has been nothing short of remarkable.
Just one round into her first season, Shaina already surpassed two of the league’s greatest scorers—Alyssa Valdez and Rondina herself—in single-game scoring, proving that she’s not just a promising talent but a generational one.
With several years of eligibility ahead, Rondina encouraged Nitura to keep pushing her limits and enjoy the journey.
“Magpaka-android siya hangga't kaya niya, hanggang fifth year. Isang beses lang ‘yun pero siya kasi ang dami niyang 30 points,” said Rondina.
“Huwag lang tumigil. ‘Yung panalo lang diyan, pag tina-trabaho,” she ended.
