The Ateneo Blue Eagles exacted revenge on the Adamson Lady Falcons during their second round encounter in UAAP Season 87 on Saturday.
The Ateneo Blue Eagles made sure to close out after seizing the 2-0 lead as they beat the Adamson Lady Falcons in straight sets, 25-23, 25-14, 25-23, in their second round encounter in UAAP Season 87 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday.
After falling via reverse sweep in their season opener against Shaina Nitura and the Lady Falcons, Ateneo kept themselves composed after taking the first two sets to split the season series against the San Marcelino squad.
More importantly, the Blue Eagles pushed their win streak to three games in a row, as they tout a 4-5 record — hoping to breakaway from a logjam at the bottom half of the standings.
Lyann De Guzman continues to be the driving force behind the Ateneo Blue Eagles with a triple-double effort with 12 points, 13 excellent digs, and 13 excellent receptions.
Ateneo staved off Adamson’s spirit particularly in the first and third sets.
In Set 1, Adamson’s Barbie Jamili was called for a foot fault at the center line, which was initially challenged by Lady Falcons head coach JP Yude. But replays saw that Jamili did in fact cross the line which gifted Ateneo the first set victory, 25-23.
This spurred on Ateneo’s confidence in Set 2 which they comfortably won to take the invaluable 2-0 lead.
Unlike last time though, the Blue Eagles were able to take advantage of their lead and finish off their opponents in the sweep victory.
After Adamson seized the 17-16 lead in the fourth canto, the Blue Eagles went on a scorching 4-0 run to flip the script on their foes. Nitura wouldn’t go down without a fight though, as they fought back to just a point, 23-24.
Unfortunately, Nitura was called for the net touch on a block attempt that sealed the victory for the Blue Eagles.
AC Miner played supporting role for De Guzman with 13 markers while Zey Pacia added 10 points of her own.
Nitura finished with 21 points, seven excellent digs, and 11 excellent receptions in the losing effort for Adamson who are now 3-6.
