The PNVF has invited 33 prospects, including 15 Alas Pilipinas members, to the national team tryouts with head coach Jorge De Brito overseeing the selection.
The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) has invited 33 players, including 15 members of Alas Pilipinas, to a series of tryouts to determine the composition of the women’s national volleyball teams for three major international tournaments this year.
PNVF president Ramon “Tats” Suzara emphasized the quality of the invitees, which include top collegiate standouts, overseas prospects, and key players from PVL.
“These are quality young players from the professional league PVL, from abroad, and from schools,” said Suzara, who also serves as the president of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and executive vice president of the FIVB. “This is a wish list of players for the national team that I fervently want to see competing for our flag and country.”
Alas Pilipinas head coach Jorge Edson De Brito will oversee the tryouts, with details on the schedule and venue to be announced later.
The final roster will compete in the 6th AVC Challenge Cup for Women (June 8-15), the 5th Southeast Asian V. League (Week 1: July 25-27; Week 2: August 1-3), and the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand (December 7-19).
“We are very confident in selecting the best players in every position,” De Brito said. “The Philippines has a lot of great talents from the collegiate and pro ranks, and we have been improving ever since I arrived. We just need to work hard to let the players grow.”
Among the invited players are setters Mars Alba, Tia Andaya, Julia Coronel, Jia De Guzman, and Lams Lamina. The libero group includes Dawn Catindig, Justine Jazareno, Jennifer Nierva, and Hannah Stires from the USA.
