Fnatic ONIC PH and Aurora Gaming aim to continue the Philippines’ dominance in the M6 World Championship of MLBB.
Fnatic ONIC PH and Aurora Gaming face a tough task early in their respective quests to defend the world title for the Philippines in the biggest international stage of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB).
The reigning MPL PH champions will face Indonesia’s Team Liquid ID while Aurora lock horns against Myanmar’s Falcon Esports in the Swiss Stage opening round of the M6 World Championship.
Heavy favorites Selangor Red Giants (Malaysia) are drawn opposite the S2G Esports (Turkiye) while NIP Flash (Singapore) will duke it out against CFU Gaming (Cambodia).
Rounding it up, KeepBest Gaming (China) are pitted against RRQ Hoshi (Indonesia), Twisted Minds (Saudi Arabia) will slug it out with Team Vamo (Malaysia), Team Spirit (Russia/Serbia) bracing for a war against Maycam Evolve (Argentina), and the still-yet-to-be determined Wildcard winner taking on BloodThirsty Kings (USA).
Eight teams grouped into two are fighting for that lone wildcard slot with ULFHEDNAR (Turkiye), DFYG (China) Niightmare Esports (Laos), and Geekay Esports (Egypt/UAE) taking up drawn Group A.
Group B will be composed of The MongolZ (Mongolia), Legion Esport (Vietnam), Insilio (Russia), and RRQ Akira (Brazil).
All the eight matchups are part of the newly installed Swiss stage format--which will run November 28-December 5--will last through five rounds, with the goal of obtaining three wins to advance into the playoffs.
What is the Swiss Stage?
All 16 teams will be competing in this stage. There are five rounds that will take place.
The teams that win three rounds head to the playoffs. The teams that lose three rounds will be eliminated.
In Round 1, the teams are randomly matched and will face each other in a best-of-one.
In Round 2, the eight teams with a 1-0 score will be randomly matched again for a best-of-one. The eight remaining teams with a 0-1 score would also be paired off in the same way.
In Round 3, the four teams with a 2-0 score will be paired off for a best-of-three. The winners will head to the playoffs.
The eight teams with a 1-1 score will be randomly matched in a best-of-one.
Meanwhile, the four remaining teams with a 0-2 score will be paired off in a best-of-three. The losers are eliminated.
In Round 4, the six teams with a 2-1 total score will be paired off in a best-of-three. The winners head to the playoffs.
The six teams with a 1-2 score will be randomly matched in a best-of-three. The losers are eliminated.
In Round 5, the remaining six teams with a 2-2 score will be paired off in a best-of-three. The winners get to the playoffs, while the losers are eliminated.
Fnatic and Aurora became the country’s representatives in M6 after a 1-2 finish in the MPL Philippines Season 14.
