One of the surprises of the M6 World Championship, Rodel “Ar Sy” Cruz and Falcon Esports of Myanmar proved their doubters wrong with big wins against Aurora Gaming and Selangor Red Giants.
It was a plea that was heard around the world.
Rodel "Ar Sy" Cruz was undoubtedly a Filipino, but the Falcon Esports analyst made sure to fight for Southeast Asian brethren Myanmar even as they exited the M6 World Championship on Wednesday, December 11.
“I would like to request, please bring back the MPL to Myanmar,” an emotional Cruz told reporters in the aftermath of their 1-3 loss to Team Spirit in the lower bracket quarterfinals.
.
In a passionate post-game speech, Ar Sy even stated that he is willing to forego a chance to play for a Filipino team and instead become a coach in Myanmar.
“Gusto kong patunayan na deserve din talaga ng Myanmar na magkaroon ng MPL,” Cruz emphasized.
The Filipino analyst then looked back on Falcon Esports’ journey to the tournament from the hardships and sacrifices that came along the way.
“Sa Myanmar, kasi sobrang hirap kaya mas nae-engganyo sila na patunayan na deserve din magkaroon nang kahit MPL man lang,” he bared.
"Kami-kami lang nagtutulungan talaga, wala kaming support mula sa gobyerno,” Cruz added.
MPL Myanmar started in 2018 and ran until Season 5 in 2020, when the military junta had stepped in.
Prior to M6, a qualifier tournament was held to ensure Myanmar was represented in the biggest MLBB tournament in the world. Falcon Esports and Burmese Ghouls emerged to represent the country in the M-series.
Falcon Esports had a stunning run in M6, finishing 3-1 in the Swiss stage. Those victories were against MPL Philippines Season 14 runners-up Aurora Gaming, MPL Malaysia Season 14 champion Selangor Red Giants, and North American M-series veteran in the BloodThirstyKings.
After sweeping NIP Flash in the upper bracket quarterfinals, Falcon Esports suffered a narrow 3-2 loss against reigning MPL Philippines champion Fnatic ONIC PH that relegated them to the lower bracket against Team Spirit.
