The national team will fly to China to join a pocket tournament as part of their preparation for the World Cup.
Bothered by back pain, Kai Sotto has yet to train with the Gilas Pilipinas gearing up for the FIBA World Cup in Manila next month.
The 7-foot-3 is getting his back treated in the hopes of reaching tip-top form in time for the basketball conclave among the world’s bests.
“Nag-rehab ako and everything so sana pagdating ng World Cup OK na, 100 percent na ako,” Sotto told News5’s Ian Suyu on Sunday.
Sotto suffered the said injury in his second game with the Orlando Magic in the NBA Summer League where he finished with a measly 2 rebounds, an assist and a block before retreating to the dugout.
On Monday, Sotto shared an Instagram story of one of his rehab sessions.
Since returning to Manila, the lanky center has yet to join the national team’s practice. But Sotto assured he will do so once he recovers from the injury.
“Hinihintay ko lang naman mag-heal ‘yung likod ko dahil gusto ko 100 percent ako pagdating ng mga games,” said the 21-year-old, who watched the PVL Invitational Conference matches on Sunday.
The national team will fly to China to undergo a series of tuneup games.
