Gone streaking anew, the UST Golden Spikers seek to break free from mid-table traffic.

Coach Odjie Mamon and his wards take aim for solo third in a crucial match-up against the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball tournament Saturday, April 5, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City.

Alongside the DLSU Green Spikers, the Golden Spikers and Blue Eagles are joint-third in the team standings thanks to their identical 6-4 win-loss records.

Only the top seed FEU Tamaraws (9-1) and the four-time defending champion NU Bulldogs (8-2) are ahead of the three teams.

UST recorded their second-straight win of the second round after making quick work of the Adamson Soaring Falcons.

Two-time MVP Josh Ybañez paced the Golden Spikers with a team-high 13 points while JJ Macam submitted 12 markers, and Jay Rack Dela Noche chipping in 11.

It was UST’s sixth consecutive victory over Adamson since the opening round of Season 85 in 2023.

“I think the team is responding well with the instructions. They followed the game plan, maganda 'yung execution namin. Merong lapses, pero it’s part of the match pa rin ‘eh,” Mamon told reporters after the game.

Against Ateneo, UST also eyes revenge after the Blue Eagles took down Golden Spikers in their March 9 showdown.

Tip-off is at 9:00 a.m.
