It was only a matter of time.
Carlos Yulo had a terrible start to his Olympic bid in the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp. It seemed like skipping the Asian Games was a bad move after all. But after dusting himself off, he’s leaving Belgium with a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
So, how did he do he do it, exactly?
Well, Yulo had to make up for a couple of stumbles from Day 1 with a signature routine in the floor exercise. On Sunday, he came through and got a score of 14.600 from the judges, good enough for third in the said event. It was highest mark among athletes still vying for a slot in the 2024 Paris Olympics, thus making him the second Filipino behind newly crowned Asian Games champion EJ Obiena to qualify.
Yulo’s supporters couldn’t get enough of it. On X (formerly Twitter), the diminutive dynamo was showered with love after his crucial bounce-back performance.
Congrats Carlos Yulo @c_edrielzxs You're hardwork has finally paid-off. You have another chance to get the Olympic medal. Continue to bring honor to our country 🇵🇭 #LabanPilipinas

October 1, 2023 Yulo didn’t win a medal during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. For sure, he’s eyeing a major comeback. The resilience he displayed in Antwerp says that he can get it done.
