Superman in the PBA? We can sure hope so.
Will Dwight Howard play in the PBA?
If it were up to the former Los Angeles Lakers center, there’s no doubt in his mind that he would want to play in the Philippines.
Howard is set to rep a Philippine team, called up by Strong Group Athletics for the upcoming Dubai International Basketball Championship.
And since he arrived in the Philippines, Howard has not been shy of himself possibly suiting up in the PBA, Asia's oldest play-for-pay league.
The main thing holding him back? The PBA's height limit for imports.
The PBA’s current height limit for Commissioner's Cup imports is 6 feet 9 inches, and Howard is listed by the NBA as 6'10". However, the 2020 NBA Champion believes he's a fit, so much so that he's game enough to have himself measured, albeit on social media.
Jokes aside, Dwight does believe he can make the PBA height limit, though he feels that a huge door could be opened if that particular requirement is scrapped altogether.
“I’m eligible for the PBA,” Howard said during a Strong Group media availability. “I think they gotta change the height requirements.”
"I'm 6'9" without shoes, and with shoes it adds a little inch," he added.
It’s not only Howard who could benefit from a possible height limit change from the PBA.
The three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year also mentioned that his teammate and longtime Gilas Pilipinas center Andray Blatche as someone who could play import in the PBA if the league had no restrictions. The NBA lists Blatche at 6'11".
“Hopefully they do that [no height limit] so guys like Dray can come back here and play as well,” said Howard. “[If] they change the height requirement, maybe we’ll see a twin towers here in the Philippines.”
