The playoff race has been long over for Matthew Wright and Kyoto Hannaryz this year, but the Fil-Canadian gunner made sure to make his mark in the 2023-24 B.League season.

Wright scored 37 points and hit the game-winning three in Kyoto’s wild 88-87 win over the Saga Ballooners Saturday, notching his best-ever game in Japan.

Matthew scored the final nine points for the Hannaryz, all of them from deep and all of them coming within the final minute.

The last three came with 5.9 seconds left, which gave Kyoto the 88-87 lead for the win.

Wright’s 37 points are his new career-high in Japan, and his most points as a pro since scoring 42 points as a PBA rookie in 2017.

His eight triples are his career-high between the PBA and the B.League.

Finally, Wright’s 37 points are now the most points scored by a Filipino Asian Quota player in the B.League and KBL, breaking the 33 points scored by 2024 KBL MVP Ethan Alvano earlier this season.
