Football is mourning with the loss of one of its brightest minds in Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Former and current members of the Philippine men's national football team extended their condolences for the passing of the 76-year-old tactician after a seven-month battle against pancreatic cancer.

“Our father Sven-Göran Eriksson fell asleep peacefully in his home at Björkefors outside Sunne this morning,” wrote in a statement from Eriksson’s children, Lina and Johan.

“He has for a long time fought bravely with his illness, but now it came to an end.”

Earlier this year, the Swedish tactician announced he has been diagnosed with the disease.

Recently retired booter Stephan Schrock posted a short but simple message in his Instagram Story on the sudden news about Eriksson.

“RIP GAFFER,” the 38–year-old midfielder wrote.

Veteran left back Martin Steuble also offered his condolences to his former coach: “Great honor and pleasure to have met you. May your soul rest in peace.”

Striker Patrick Reichelt took time to send his regards in an Instagram Story: “Rest in peace, coach.”

While Eriksson is best known for calling the shots for England from 2001-2006, Filipino football fans will remember him for his brief time coaching the formerly known Azkals from October 2018 to January 2019.

Eriksson steered the Philippines to a semifinal finish in the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup after the team fell to eventual champion Vietnam, 4-2, across two legs.

He then parted ways with the squad after a winless run in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup but would continue to serve as a team consultant.

The English men’s football team also issued a statement on the passing of Eriksson. He led the Three Lions to quarterfinal finishes in the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cup and the 2004 Euros.

“We are deeply saddened that Sven-Göran Eriksson, who managed the #ThreeLions from 2001 to 2006, has passed away aged 76. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. Rest in peace, Sven. You will be greatly missed."

10-time English Premier League titleholders Manchester City, who Eriksson spent a year coaching, also commemorated the Swedish legend.
