PNVF President Ramon "Tats" Suzara has been elected as the new AVC President, becoming the ninth to do so and the second Filipino to hold the position.
In a momentous achievement for Philippine volleyball, Ramon “Tats” Suzara, president of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF), has been elected as the new president of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC).
Suzara's election is a significant milestone, as he becomes only the second Filipino to hold this position in the history of Asian volleyball after Nemesio Yabut Sr.
The PNVF President secured 48 out of 63 votes, including 20 proxy votes, beating Qatar Volleyball Association President Ali Ghanim Al Kuwari.
Suzara succeeded Indonesia’s Rita Sibowo, who headed the organization for the past Olympic cycle from 2020 to 2024.
"I see the opportunity and the momentum to take the AVC towards the next era. The greatest boost shall be derived from the region's grand tradition and rich history in volleyball. The legacy of inspiring wisdom and nurturing leadership of previous administrations will be carried on, even as the AVC story continues to unfold," said Suzara.
Under his watch at the PNVF, Alas Pilipinas Men and Women secured their first-ever podium finishes in the recent Southeast Asian Volleyball League.
Alas Women also bagged the historic bronze in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup.
Serving a four-year term, Suzara's presidency marks the beginning of a new era for Asian volleyball.
In the past two years, the Philippines has also successfully staged the Manila Leg of the Volleyball Nations League, which featured the top volleyball nations in the world.
The country is also set to host the 2025 Men’s Volleyball World Championship in Manila.
