Kai Sotto appeared to hurt his ankle in the third quarter of Koshigaya's win over AJ Edu and Nagasaki Velca in Japan's B.LEAGUE.
Kai Sotto won his first head-to-head showdown against AJ Edu in Japan’s B.LEAGUE, but at a cost.
Sotto appeared to tweak his left ankle late in the third quarter of what would be an 80-67 home win for the Koshigaya Alphas over the Nagasaki Velca Wednesday, November 6.
Following a routine play, Kai was seen on the floor holding on to his left ankle after Ryoma Hashimoto made a three with 58.7 seconds left in the third.
The replay on the broadcast didn’t exactly catch Sotto’s moment of injury, but Sotto didn’t hurt his ankle on a rebound play, instead on the way back to the other end for defense.
At the time of getting hurt, Sotto already played 24 minutes and was good for 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a career-high tying four blocks.
Kai didn’t return for the fourth quarter.
The game against Nagasaki was Kai’s first matchup against longtime Gilas Pilipinas teammate AJ Edu.
For his part, Edu went for six points, eight rebounds, a steal, and a block for the Velca.
It was only Koshigaya’s second win of the season, as the Alphas improved to 2-10. Nagasaki dropped to 6-6 with the loss.
