Good development for Kai Sotto as he started for Koshigaya, albeit playing limited minutes, after tweaking his ankle just days earlier in B.LEAGUE play.
After tweaking his ankle earlier this week, it seems all is well for Kai Sotto.
The 7’3” Filipino center started for Koshigaya Saturday, as the Alphas took an 80-72 win over his former team Yokohama B-Corsairs in the 2024-25 season of the B.LEAGUE.
Sotto actually got the scoring started for Koshigaya, throwing down a powerful slam for the Alphas who have now won back-to-back games for their first winning streak in the B1.
Still, Kai only saw limited minutes, playing just 13 minutes and scoring seven points to go along with four rebounds.
Last November 6, Sotto tweaked his left ankle with a minute left in the third quarter against the Nagasaki Velca. He didn’t play in the fourth quarter of that win.
After the win against the Velca, Koshigaya announced the availability of Sotto for Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers.
The Philippines will host two games later this month against New Zealand and Hong Kong.
In other B1 results, Dwight Ramos and Levanga Hokkaido saw their three-game win streak come to an end with a 96-68 loss to the Utsunomiya Brex. Ramos was limited to just five points.
Playing against his former team for the first time, Matthew Wright and the Kawasaki Brave Thunders endured a tough 83-81 defeat to the Kyoto Hannaryz.
Wright scored 17 points in the loss.
Over in Osaka, Ray Parks Jr. and the Evessa beat the Sendai 89ers, 87-68. However, Parks Jr. had a rare off night, shooting just 1/12 for four points.
