Denice Zamboanga is pulling out all the stops for her last preparations ahead of her interim world title clash at ONE Fight Night 27.
A shot for the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship has been a long time coming for Filipino fighter Denice Zamboanga, a whopping five years in the making with all things considered.
As she draws closer to her title fight — albeit the interim belt — against Alyona Rassohyna in Bangkok on January 11, Zamboanga isn’t about to let up in her final stretch of preparations.
Zamboanga posted an update on her training against Rassohyna, shortly after the holiday season where she continued to push her body to train — even at the expense of exhaustion and period pain, something that is unique to female fighters.
Having the chance to become ONE Championship’s first-ever Filipina titlist, Zamboanga doesn’t want anything to get in her way.
“No excuses. 1 week out,” Zamboanga captioned on her video.
The video showed Zamboanga training on an uphill slope, where she mentioned phrases that could hinder her, such as body pains and having her period.
But with the heart of a true Filipino warrior, Zamboanga pushed through and sprinted up the hill at full speed.
“But I still do it, anyway!” the video read.
Zamboanga is riding a three-bout win streak heading into her match against Rassohyna, winning all her matches since December 2022.
Meanwhile, Rassohyna makes her return to the ONE Circle for the first time in four years, having last fought against currently-injured atomweight champion Stamp Fairtex.
Zamboanga and Rassohyna fight for the right to face Stamp when she returns from her injury later this year.
Their clash for the interim title is the co-main event with the Featherweight MMA World Championship bout between China’s Tang Kai and challenger Akbar Abdullaev of Kyrgyzstan.
ONE Fight Night 27: Tang vs Abdullaev is set for January 11 at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok.
