Carl Tamayo is back for the Changwon LG Sakers, SJ Belangel's Daegu KOGAS Pegasus keep steady pace in KBL action.
Carl Tamayo returned from a three-game absence, coming up big in the clutch for the Changwon LG Sakers in a 67-64 win over the Goyang Sono Skygunners Sunday at the Changwon Gymnasium.
Tamayo, who was out due to injury since late last year, hit the ground running in his return with 17 points, seven rebounds, and three assists as the LG Sakers broke a two-game slump.
The former UP standout scored a crucial basket with 1:19 left in regulation to give Changwon some breathing room, 65-62. Tamayo's bucket also stopped a 7-0 run by the Skygunners, which erased a sizeable advantage for Changwon, 63-55, earlier in the fourth.
Tamayo was the top scorer for Changwon who had three players in double-digit scoring. Darryl Monrose flirted with a triple-double in the win with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists.
The LG Sakers have won nine of their last 11 outings to improve to 14-12.
Goyang, set to welcome two-time UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao into its fold soon, dropped to 9-17.
Elsewhere, the Daegu KOGAS made it two wins in a row as they nipped the Anyang Red Boosters, 84-77.
SJ Belangel struggled with his shooting but still finished with 11 points. However, he found his groove in the playmaking department, dishing out seven assists — most of which came at crucial moments in the fourth salvo where they stymied Anyang.
Youssopha Ndoye led the KOGAS in the victory with a monster double-double of 21 points and 19 rebounds.
Javi Gomez de Liaño was unable to tally any stats in over three minutes of action for Anyang.
KOGAS are at 15-10 for the season, while Anyang has lost seven in a row and is dead last at 7-19.
In the other game, Juan Gomez de Liaño’s Seoul SK Knights extended their win streak to four with a 67-63 escape act over the Suwon KT Sonicboom, who will also be welcoming UP’s JD Cagulangan soon.
De Liaño saw limited action with over eight minutes of play to finish with two points, one rebound, one assist, and one steal. Seoul continues to lead the KBL with a 19-6 slate.
