Paolo Borromeo placed 10th in the men's singles, while Cathryn Limketkai and Sofia Frank ended up in the top 12 of the women's figure skating event of the Asian Winter Games.
It was the end of the road for Team Philippines’ figure skating squad at the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China--but it certainly brought plenty of potential.
The five-person team finished as high as fourth place, after the medal rounds of both the singles and pair events on Thursday, February 13.
Isabella Gamez and Aleksandr Korovin missed out on a podium finish in the pair figure skating event.
The duo tallied a total score of 155.62– 55.63 points in the short program and 99.99 in the free skate – to finish fourth.
Uzbekistan’s tandem of Ekaterina Geynish and Dmitrii Chigirev (176.43 points) secured gold, while the pair of Ryom Tae Ok and Han Kum Chol (168.88 points) of North Korea copped silver. The Yuna Nagaoka-Sumitada Moriguchi partnership (168.35 points) of Japan took home bronze.
In the men’s singles event, Pinoy bet Paolo Borromeo finished inside the top 10 with a total score of 178.96. The 27-year-old collected 58.41 in the short program, while tallying 117.85 in free skating.
South Korea's Cha Jun-hwan (281.69 points) reigned supreme in the event, with Kagiyama Yuma (272.76 poinst) of Japan taking silver, and Shaidorov Mikhail of Kazakhstan (246.01 points) of Kazakhastan clinching bronze.
Meanwhile, Cathryn Limketkai and Sofia Frank finished inside the top 12 of the women’s singles competition.
Limketkai collected a total score of 137.19, good for ninth place, while Frank ended up in 11th overall after racking 120.05.
Kim Chaeyeon of South Korea bested three-time women’s world champion Sakamoto Kaori of Japan to rule the event as compatriot Yoshida Hana joined the podium finishers.
Still in medal contention is the Philippines' men's curling team, who are currently trailing to China, 1-4, in the semifinal round.
