Philippine Airlines vows to replicate the same support it extended to Hidilyn Diaz when she won a gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics, as a fresh set of Filipino athletes compete in the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
When Hidilyn Diaz delivered the Philippines’ first gold medal in the Olympics three years ago, rewards were aplenty.
Among them was Philippine Airlines granting the weightlifter a lifetime of flight miles.
The flag carrier gives Diaz free 80,000 miles every year for the rest of her life, which are good for a couple of roundtrip regional flights per year.
PAL is doing that and more should another Filipino athlete take home a gold medal in the Olympics in Paris.
“It could even be better. Find out soon,” said Alvin Miranda, the PAL VP for marketing.
But even before the Olympic Games unfurl, PAL has affirmed its support for the athletes joining the conclave among the best of the best.
During an exclusive sendoff dinner on Wednesday, June 19, the flag carrier rewarded the Pinoy athletes and paraathletes competing in the Olympics with 50,000 worth of miles.
“They’re all given instant membership to Mabuhay Miles and they’re also given 50,000 miles to start with. That’s enough for them to fly regional flight for Philippine Airlines,” Miranda said.
Like the rest of the country, Miranda is hopeful Diaz won’t be the last to win an Olympic gold medal.
“Hidi is our first-ever forever flyer. I really really want to make sure she’s not the last because I think our athletes deserve all the support that they can get especially from private corporations like Philippine Airlines that also have the name of our flag and our country in our logo and brand,” Miranda said..
He added: “I’m so excited for the games because I have a feeling we could win something this year and if an athlete wins, PAL is committed to giving out the support that we usually extend to them.”
