It appears it’s only for Wednesday’s game, though.
Wondering who was wearing jersey no. 1 for the Converge FiberXers on Wednesday?
Well, it was longtime Aldin Ayo deputy Mcjour Luib.
Luib provided quality minutes for the FiberXers in their 102-97 loss to the Blackwater Bossing in the PBA On Tour at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The former NCAA champion with the Letran Knights, who began his coaching journey as an assistant coach to Ayo when he helmed the De La Salle Green Archers, had 3 points, 1 rebound, and 3 assists in 8 minutes and 13 seconds of action.
He uncorked a triple with 3:14 remaining in the third quarter and Converge trailing, 70-62.
Blackwater, though, spoiled Luib's appearance and Justin Arana’s Herculean 32-point, 17-rebound, 4-assist, and 3-block effort for the FiberXers.
Behind Rashawn McCarthy’s 30 points, Blackwater went on to beat Converge to return to the win column.
This was not the first time Converge did something similar.
Last March, Danny Ildefonso unretired and suited up for the FiberXers. He was concurrently a Converge assistant coach.
Converge used its 15th roster spot and activated the PBA legend, who is one of the members of the 40 Greatest PBA players. It didn’t translate to wins, though, as the FiberXers made an early playoff exit.
Does this also mean Luib, who was undrafted in 2016, will play for the rest of the preseason tilt? It appears not.
Nonetheless it was an outing to remember for the 29-year-old playing coach.
