No mean mugging: Kelly Williams explains why he never gloats even after highlight plays
PBA

Anyone who has watched the PBA long enough would know that Kelly Williams of the TNT Tropang Giga has produced quite the highlight reel of in-your-face dunks, rim-rattling follow-up slams, crowd-pleasing jams, and soaring alley-oops.

Then again, anyone who has watched the PBA long enough would also know that Williams is not one to gloat, even after putting someone in a poster. He is not one to preen, even after grabbing a rebound and throwing it down all in one emphatic motion. He is not one to show anybody up, not even after an amazing play.

Sure, he might give a menacing glare from time to time. Maybe a primal scream every now and then. But no jersey-popping, no trash-talking, no crazy antics—nothing else.

And, on Thursday, Williams let his guard down for just one bit, admitting on a Facebook post that maybe—just maybe—he should have gloated a little more, particularly during his athletic prime.

“Sometimes, when I watch old highlights, I wish I celebrated more,” Williams wrote. “Mean mug somebody. Shoot down the bench with an air machine gun. Raise the roof. Pop my jersey. Something.”

Then, the man popularly known as Machine Gun Kelly, gave his followers insight on why he never did do any of those on-court antics so common in today’s basketball.

“But back in HS when Coach Benny [White] mean mugged me for dancing after an AND-1 dunk, he yelled during the timeout…‘You’re supposed to do that sh*t! Act like it!'” recalled the Tropang Giga forward. “It stuck with me ever since.”

Indeed. But that’s not all. The ageless high-flyer also dispensed some sage advice for any hooper who’d care to pay attention.

“Let the work & results speak,” Williams concluded. “Everything else is fluff.”

It just so happens that Williams’ body of work speaks for itself.
