The Dyip did just enough to beat the Bossing.
It was another day in the office for Juami Tiongson after leading the Terrafirma Dyip to a 97-87 win over the Blackwater Bossing in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday.
Tiongson finished with 25 points, eight assists, and two steals to steer the Dyip to their first win of the conference.
But instead of thumping his chest, the former Ateneo Blue Eagles standout commended one of his teammates.
Rookie Stephen Holt didn’t have a field day as far as scoring was concerned but Tiongson said he deserved to be commended nonetheless.
The high-scoring Tiongson made special mention of the prized newcomer, who saw action in the NBA G League, NBL in Australia, and other leagues in Europe.
“Big game for Holt. Maybe he didn’t score as much, but he was elite defensively,” said Tiongson.
Holt has yet to break out after being drafted first overall in this year's PBA Draft. Against Blackwater, he put up seven points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
In his debut, he had 11 points but had a 0-of-5 clip from the three-point area in a 108-103 loss to the NorthPort Batang Pier.

The 1-1 Dyip will need more from the 31-year-old cager, who waited for the opportunity to get his Philippine passport before moving to the PBA, as they take on the NLEX Road Warriors, TNT Tropang Giga, Phoenix Fuel Masters, and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in their next four outings.
