Big time players like big games.

That’s why there was no way Terrence Romeo was skipping the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals opener on Friday for San Miguel.

After missing the entire semifinal series against Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel, Romeo finally saw action and wound up with five points as the Beermen gained the head start in the best-of-seven finale by way of a 103-95 win over Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots

He only logged eight minutes and two seconds, though.

SMB coach Jorge Gallent later explained they only wanted the prized guard to ease into action after suffering the ankle injury that shelved him in the penultimate series against the Gin Kings.

“We just want him to feel the court and feel the crowd in the Finals,” Gallent said after the match at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

“I just didn’t want to put him in a situation na Game 2 and then he didn’t feel the court yet.” If things fall into place, the former PBA Scoring Champion would play longer minutes in Game 2 set for Sunday.

“If he feels better tomorrow then I’m sure he’s gonna have longer minutes on Sunday,” said Gallent, who added Vic Manuel is still also day-to-day as he is still trying to get back in shape.

These developments definitely gave SMB fans more reasons to get excited as Game 2 unfurls at 6:15 p.m. on Sunday at the same venue.
