Rookie Christian David currently averages 12.0 points in three matches for the Blackwater Bossing in the PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup.
It took Christian David one conference to finally ease into the Philippine brand of basketball.
Three games into the PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup, David, a former US NCAA Division I player, tallied averages of 12.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists for Blackwater which picked him at No. 2 in last year's draft.
Last conference, the 25-year-old Fil-Canadian normed 8.7 points and 4.1 rebounds.
“I’d say I’ve adjusted pretty well to the game here,” said David, who earned the Player of the Game honors following his 16-point team-best showing highlighted by three triples in the Bossing's third straight win against Converge last Wednesday, March 6.
He also collared five rebounds, handed an assist and swiped a steal in that match that strengthened the current status of Blackwater as unlikely leaders in the league together with Terrafirma.
The former Butler Bulldog attributed his improved play to Cariaso.
“I want to thank coach for trusting in me and believing in me and instilling confidence in me to go at it everyday and keep working,” he said.
But while the Bossing have lunged to an early 3-0 lead, it is still too early to celebrate.
“Like coach said, we’re just going to keep working hard. Every game, we’re going to play like it’s a playoff game,” David said.
“We’re always going to come into each game with a chip on our shoulder and we’ll see what happens.”
Blackwater will try to preserve its unbeaten slate against NLEX at the Philsports Arena in Pasig on Wednesday, March 13.
Game time is at 4:30 p.m.
