The Cebuano Hotshot shared the basketball court with some young bloods.
When you think of Cebu and the game of basketball, it’s impossible to forget the name Dondon Hontiveros. After all, he is the Cebuano Hotshot.
He retired from the PBA in 2017, and he has already taken on a second career in politics as a member of the Cebu City Council, but separating the man from the sport he loves is next to impossible.
Occasionally, we see Instagram posts wherein the PBA legend is still strutting on the court, making threes like he hasn’t lost a step. But really, one might wonder if the 45-year old Hontiveros can still do his thing when facing tougher and younger competition.
For sure, the 13-time PBA All-Star found the answer to that during a pickup game that featured some of the finest cagers from Cebu today. In a recent IG story from Hontiveros, the honorable hooping councilman thanked Cebu-based businessman Chase Cokaliong for hosting such a gathering.

Included in this star-studded pickup game were three-time PBA All-Star RR Pogoy, NU Bulldogs point guard Steve Nash Enriquez, Dondon Hontiveros’ son Isaiah Blanco of the Green Archers, and Shane Menina from Arellano University. Who do you think went at the former SMB star the hardest?
Cebu has long been a hotbed of terrific basketball talent. Aside from Pogoy and Hontiveros himself, some of the other Cebuanos who made it big in the pros are Manny Paner, Arnie Tuadles, Dondon Ampalayo, and of course, June Mar Fajardo.
And perhaps this is why Cebuanos continue to succeed in the PBA and other leagues, because they grind even if it’s the offseason, even if it’s the holidays.
