The Angels are still alive in the PVL Second All-Filipino Conference.
The Petro Gazz Angels improved their chances of moving to the PVL Second All-Filipino Conference semifinals following a tough victory over the Akari Chargers, 25-18,17-25, 25-22, 32-20 at the PhilSports Arena on Saturday.
Marian Buitre provided the surprise firepower for the Agnels with a solid performance of 22 points coming off 16 attacks, four blocks, and two aces.
Angels coach has nothing but praises for Buitre who is playing a do-it-all role for Petro Gazz.
"Alam naman kung ano ‘yung role ng bawat isa. Marian knows her role sa team. Minsan ginagawa naming opposite, minsan gingawang middle," Sto. Tomas told reporters.
"For sure frustrating ‘yan kasi hindi mo alam kung ano ba talagang gusto mong gawin sa akin. Pero very thankful kasi in-embrace niya ‘yun and kapag binibigyan siyang chance maglaro, pinapakita naman niya na kaya niyang gampanan ang roles na binibigay sa kanya."
The former UP Lady Maroon said she's used to playing different roles and does not mind the rotation.
"Ever since sa college, ayun na rin role ko, minsan open, minsan opposite, minsan middle. Hindi naman ako ilalagay nila coach doon kung hindi sila nagtitiwala sa akin," she said.
"Para sa akin, mindset ko every training, ‘wag kong kakalimutan na may chances na pwede akong mag-middle. Laging ready lang."
The Angels now boast a 5-4 win-loss record, just outside the top four squads who will qualify for the semifinals.
