The Petro Gazz Angels finally get their elusive PVL All-Filipino title, taking down erstwhile-Grand Slam champion Creamline Cool Smashers in a dominating Game 3 performance.
The Petro Gazz Angels have ended the Creamline Cool Smashers’ reign in the PVL All-Filipino Conference, completing a stunning four-set victory in the winner-take-all Game 3 of the Finals, 25-21, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19, in front of 10,226 spectators at the PhilSports Arena on Saturday, April 12.
This marks the Angels' first-ever All-Filipino title, and third overall since joining the league in 2018. Petro Gazz’s last championship came in the 2022 Reinforced Conference, when they swept Cignal in two games.
Bucking a third-set collapse, the Angels showed great composure and grit to overcome all the punches thrown at them by the Cool Smashers in the set 4 clincher.
Trailing 13-15, Brooke Van Sickle and MJ Phillips led Petro Gazz to a 3-0 run to retake the lead. The two would combine once more to build a two-point lead at 18-16, but was easily countered by Creamline.
Tied at 18-all, the Angels dropped the haymaker in the form of a 4-0 run capped off by Van Sickle’s off-the-block hit. From there, Petro Gazz reached match point at 24-19 after a BVS service ace.
In the following play, Jonah Sabete would go on to seal the championship with a cross-court kill.
