UST is hell-bent on building a formidable team for Season 86 of the UAAP.
University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers welcomed another high school standout in their lair.
Fil-Canadian Gabriel Obusan, who played for Toronto in Division 1 of the recently-concluded 2023 Smart-NBTC National Finals, has committed to the Growling Tigers.
The 6-foot-4 winger joined the team’s practice on Thursday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavillion.
The 18-year-old gunner normed 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.0 steal as he led Toronto. Incidentally, UST Tiger Cubs eliminated Toronto from the league.
“I’ve seen a lot of schools in the UAAP and UST made me feel like a family. I love the people here, I like the way we work here and it really makes me a batter player. I just want to make an impact so we can win some games in the UAAP,” he said.
UST coach Pido Jarencio said he is tailor-fit for the Growling Tigers.
“Malaking tulong si Obusan sa’tin. Malaki ang katawan na kayang makipagbakbakan sa loob at may tira sa labas. Bagay na bagay siya sa sistemang pinapatakbo natin sa UST,” he said.
