Vange Alinsug is taking on a bigger role for NU in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament, creating a budding "Big 3" for the Lady Bulldogs alongside Alyssa Solomon and Bella Belen.
After their opening day loss, the NU Lady Bulldogs have seemingly found their groove in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs bagged back-to-back straight-sets victory after their clean sweep of the UP Fighting Maroons, 25-17, 25-16, 25-17.
Spearheading the attack for NU was outside hitter Vange Alinsug as she finished with 15 points on 13 attacks, one block, and one ace.
Alinsug, now in her sophomore year, admitted taking on the challenge of providing points for the Season 85 runners-up.
"'Yung mindset ko dun since last season kung paano maging mature sa court," Alinsug said during the post-game press conference.
"Alam ko sa sarili ko na marami din akong kulang last season kasi hindi ko naman inexpect na papasok ako sa first six nung second round, so ngayon malaki na 'yung chance na mabawi ko 'yun," she added.
In NU's three wins this Season 86, Alinsug has been scoring efficiently alongside superstars Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon—much to the delight of coach Norman Miguel.
In their game versus UP, Belen and Solomon contributed 10 points, leading to a balanced outing from the Lady Bulldogs.
"Sobrang malaking bagay pag nagsabay-sabay 'yang tatlong yan (Bella, Alyssa, Vange). 'Yan ang aming triangle na arsenal kumbaga, so malaking bagay pag nagsasabay-sabay sila," said Miguel.
"Although mahirap gawin na dapat sabay-sabay, as much as possible dapat nasa tamang kondisyon silang tatlo na mag-cocontribute ng malaking percentage sa team," he added.
With Alinsug, Belen, and Solomon leading NU, the team's championship aspirations might not be far from sight.
The Lady Bulldogs will seek their fourth-straight win on Wednesday, March 6 against the FEU Lady Tamaraws at the Mall of Asia Arena at 4:00 p.m.
