UST super rookie Angge Poyos is laser focused on continuing to contribute to the team victories, instead of focusing on her career-high performance.
Angge Poyos has been unstoppable for the University of Santo Tomas in the Golden Tigresses' unbeaten run so far in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament.
Following their straight-sets victory over the Ateneo Blue Eagles, Poyos reset her new career-high at 26 points on 21 attacks, two blocks, and three service aces.
With a 5-0 record towards the end of round 1, the Golden Tigresses are on their best start in 12 seasons, or since they went 6-0 as defending champions in Season 73.
But even after her monster performance, UST's super rookie is still looking for areas in her game where she can further improve on.
"For me, siguro marami pa akong need improve lalo na sa pasa," Poyos said during the post-game press conference.
"Sinabi ni [assistant] coach [Lerma Giron] na need ko pang improve and sisimulan 'yun sa training. With the help naman ng mga coaches, magagawa ko 'yun," she added.
Giron, meanwhile, was full of praises for Poyos and the Golden Tigresses after another dominating win in the season.
"Talagang finofollow niya heart niya, binibigay niya 'yung todo effort niya. Kung paano sila gumawa sa game, ganyan ang ginagawa nila sa training," said Giron.
Poyos, however, was also quick to downplay her strong performance, focusing instead on her role to contribute to the team's success.
"Mindset ko is mag-laro lang and mag-contribute sa team, 'yun 'yung pinaka-importante," said Poyos. "Hindi naman importante 'yung individual performance basta inisip ko lang makapag contribute [sa] offense and defense."
Poyos will look to lead UST once more in their upcoming match against the UP Fighting Maroons on Wednesday, March 13 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
