The UST Golden Tigresses remain undefeated in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament after clawing their way to a four-set victory over the Adamson Lady Falcons.
University of Santo Tomas ends the first round of the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament undefeated after earning a hard fought four-set victory over Adamson University, 25-18, 22-25, 25-15, 28-26, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday, March 16.
After falling short of their comeback bid in the second set, the Golden Tigresses bounced back in convincing fashion with an early 6-0 run in the third that powered the team to the set victory and the game advantage.
In the fourth set, it was the Lady Falcons' turn to start on a strong note but was quickly countered by Jonna Perdido, who scored three-straight points to give UST the lead at 8-7.
The two teams would then go on to exchange attack points which eventually led to an extended set.
There, Lucille Almonte gave Adamson two chances to force a fifth and final set, however, Perdido responded with emphatic attacks to even the score.
Tied at 26-all, UST then turned to its super rookie Angge Poyos as she delivered back-to-back attacks to seal the victory.
The win remarkably marked the first 7-0 start of UST in the Final Four era.
Poyos had another all-around game for the Golden Tigresses with 18 points, to go along with 10 excellent digs and 10 excellent receptions.
Perdido, meanwhile, contributed 14 points, seven of which came in the fourth set.
