The DLSU Lady Spikers asserted their mastery over the Ateneo Blue Eagles after another dominant straight-set victory over their long-time rivals in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament on Sunday, April 21.
De La Salle University made quick work of Ateneo de Manila University, 25-12, 25-12, 25-18, to extend the team's winning streak over their long-time rivals in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, April 21.
After some shaky performances without their superstar Angel Canino, the Lady Spikers finally found their form led by Thea Gagate, who finished with 16 points built on 10 attacks and six blocks. The win pushed the Lady Spikers' active win streak over the Blue Eagles to 14 straight games.
Shevana Laput also had a stellar outing with 15 points on 12 attacks and three blocks, which included the game-winning tip in the third set.
Up 14-13 in the third set, the Lady Spikers made a 5-0 run to give themselves a six-point lead behind Laput and Gagate. This proved to be too much for the Blue Eagles as they were unable to catch up to their arch rivals.
La Salle's victory forced another three-way-tie for first with National University and the University of Santo Tomas, who all sit with an 11-2 record with one game left in the elimination round.
The Blue Eagles, on the other hand, slid to a 4-9 record for fifth in the standings.
No Ateneo player finished in double-digits as Zel Tsunashima and Lyann De Guzman were the highest scorers with just six points.
