The UP Fighting Maroons currently have a perfect record so far in UAAP Season 87, but it doesn’t mean they’ve been playing perfect games.

While UP has scored four straight wins by double digits, it’s the game within the game that’s been becoming a cause for slight concern.

In their latest win over FEU, the Fighting Maroons took control with a strong second quarter, limiting the Tamaraws to just seven points.

Behind another collective effort where 12 players scored, UP led by as many as 25 points.

However, the Fighting Maroons settled for an 11-point win, 69-58, as FEU scored the last 14 points of the game.

The late surge by the Tamaraws highlighted their strong fourth-quarter where they scored 21 points, the most by either team in the game.

“One thing that coach Gold would always remind the players is yung consistency namin. Consistency in a game would apply to four quarters,” assistant coach Christian Luanzon said.

“In many ways, this was similar to our game against UE. Hindi lang maybe as worse as that, but after how we started from the first 25 minutes, the last 15 minutes medyo nag-relax kami. The quarter scoring says it all,” he added.

Francis Lopez led the UP charge against FEU with 13 points and four rebounds, while one-and-done rookie Quentin Millora-Brown added a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds.

For FEU, three players scored in double figures with Adam Nakai at the lead with his 12 points.
